JOHN BRYANT – who provides year-by-year race overviews and pen-portraits of various athletes throughout this book – is the author of The London Marathon – History of the Greatest Race on Earth, 3:59.4 – The Quest to Break the Four Minute Mile, The Marathon Makers and Jogging. His biography of Chris Brasher will be published in 2011. John has worked in Fleet Street since 1971, was editor-in-chief of the Telegraph newspaper group, deputy editor of The Times, executive editor of the Daily Mail, and editor of the Sunday Correspondent and The European. He is chairman of the Press Association Trust and chairman of the Evening Standard Editorial Advisory Board. Bryant is a veteran of marathons throughout the world and has been involved in the London Marathon since its founding in 1981. He has been an Oxford Blue, County Champion, and coach to an Olympic athlete, Zola Budd. He is vice-chairman of the London Marathon Trustees and president of the Thames Hare & Hounds.
