Publishing trade magazine The Bookseller run a story today about the acquisition by Icon’s sports imprint Corinthian of Family: Life, Death and Football: A Year on the Frontline with a Proper Club by Michael Calvin.
Family, which documents in intimate detail a year in the life of Millwall Football Club, was originally self-published by Calvin, a Sunday Mirror journalist, and was shortlisted for Best Football Book of the Year at the British Sports Book Awards earlier this year. In January next year Corinthian publish our edition, seen left.
It’s a gritty, raw portrayal of a lower-league English football club fighting for promotion – and a very, very long way from the glitz and the money of the Premier League. This is a the beautiful game in all its raucous glory, captured like never before.
