The HorologiconIndependent Booksellers’ Week, a national celebration of independent bookshops, begins today and runs until 6th July 2013!

As a fellow indie, we love working with independent bookshops and so you will be able to purchase Mark Forsyth’s The Horologicon in paperback throughout the week, from your local bookshop, before its official publication in September.

Icon HQ were also asked to talk about their favourite independent bookshops:

Stacey (Sales & Marketing Executive)
I first visited Daunt Books, Marylebone for a book launch we were throwing and it has been a favourite ever since! I love its iconic oak galleries, face out book displays and way of shelving books by country. It has five stores around London, one of which has a brilliant children’s ‘den’ that I can still manage to fit into…

Leena (Digital and Export Sales & Marketing Executive)
Persephone Books is a bookshop has been imagined from the ground up – it starts with the books, and you can tell for them that is the their primary focus. And with such a unique design, who can blame them. Each title is printed in identical stone grey, with an individually designed endpapers for each – and matching bookmarks for each title! A simple, calm and open plan bookshop with booksellers who are attentive and friendly – all of whom have that rare glint of ‘knowing’ in their eye – for once, we can meet booksellers who know their books are so good, they will sell themselves.

Henry (Publicity Manager)
My favourite independent bookshop has to be Plackitt & Booth, Lytham. It’s run by knowledgeable husband and wife team Pat and Alison, who manage to fill a small, intimate space with a wonderful mix of titles, many of them signed editions. The shelves never look tired and I’d always take a staff recommendation – it’s bookselling in the finest tradition.IBW

Kate (Commissioning Editor)
I’d pick The Broadway Bookshop, a calming literary oasis in the hipsterish jungle of London Fields. They’ve got fantastic choice, beautiful displays, innovative events – and you’re never more that 5 minutes away from the best coffee East London has to offer. Or eel and mash, if you like that sort of thing.
